St. Helens: Musicians use eco-friendly CD packaging Catherine Rowe and Ray Silvia Two parishioners of St. Frederic Church, Ray Silvia and Catherine Rowe, make up the singing duo, Angels in Our Eyes. They’ve released eight albums since 2007. However starting with their album “Waterfall,” the musicians have chosen to package their CDs in environmentally responsible packaging that features vegetable inks, certified paperboard and a tray made from recycled beverage bottles. Oasis Disc Manufacturing in New Jersey makes the eco-friendly packaging. They will also reissue all of their older CDs with this packaging, which produces a zero carbon footprint. As Silvia finishes up a master’s degree in pastoral ministry from the University of Portland this spring, proceeds from his newest album created with Rowe, “Galilee Instrumentals,” will go to charity. Their new album, which was released March 11, invites listeners to envision a concert in Galilee circa 55 CE, with compositions that have a Mideast flavor that aim to help listeners meditate on biblical stories. The two have been friends in ministry since 2006 and were married March 12. At the wedding, each guest received copies of their two newest albums. Next the couple plans to put together a respect life-themed CD titled, “Heart in Me: Respect Life,” a compilation of previously released and new songs. “We have had the joy of finding out that some of our songs have saved the lives of several babies,” Catherine said. "Spreading a pro-life message with song"

   ST. HELENS -- Musicians Ray and Catherine Silvia who perform as Angels in Our eyes, will release a single in October, "Heartbeat," which they hope will send a message to young mothers who are considering abortion. They are members of St. Frederic Parish.

   The song came to Catherine after she and her husband Ray performed at the Oregon Right to Life Conference in 2007.

   When she saw lapel pins with tiny hands and feet, she realized that they were the same size of the 10-week-old baby she had aborted as a young woman.

   "[The song] conveys a certain innocence and simplicity; but the musicianship is polished , and every word can be clearly understood," Catherine said.

   The couple has been working closely with Father Karl Schray, pastor of Holy Redeemer Church in North Bend, and the directors of two pregnancy resource centers in hopes their music will save unborn children.

   The single will be formally released Oct. 29, and a pregnancy center in Manteca, Catherine's hometown, will hold a fundraising banquet where the song will premier.

   The couple will donate 120 copies of the single for people to take home. Interest is growing in the couple's project.

   A team member for the state of Ohio's "Heartbeat Bill," which aims to make abortion illegal once a heartbeat in an unborn child is discernible, plans to use the song in the campaign.

   The piece is copyrighted, but Ray and Catherine have given blanket permission for it to be used free of charge for any pro-life purpose.

   A full-length album, "Heart in Me: Respect Life," with 15 pro-life songs is expected to be released in January.
